Lucy's Greenhaus - Overwintering Your Plants

Temperatures below 45° can make certain plants go dormant but ultimately slow down in growth to an almost stagnant feeling.

Water less frequently. Plants are growing slower now that it is colder. The lack of sunlight and how dark it gets during the winter really slows down the growth. Let the soil dry out between waterings for the monstera, pothos and philodendrons.  Keep the bigger established trees not necessarily soggy but do not allow them to dry out.  Trim any dead leaves off or unhealthy growth.

Do your best to keep plants away from drafts, heating vents and fireplaces to prevent shock and damage.

Hold off on fertilizing plants until next spring unless signs of nutrient deficiency are present.

Pest Management:

If you are bringing plants from outside inside your home or building, it is recommended to add preventative and to treat as if there is an issue.

You may have to add a small humidifier if you have a dry environment during the winter. They may lose leaves if left in a dry environment or near drafts.

If you have lighting in your room or building it is best to keep the plants as close to them during the winter.

Cacti and succulents are BARELY going to need watered during the winter. Same with the snake plant. Essentially forgot about these for at least 6 weeks.
